Ode to the Thumb

Thumbs
Shel Silverstein

Oh the thumb-sucker's thumb
May look wrinkled and wet
And withered, and white as the snow,
But the taste of a thumb
Is the sweetest taste yet
(as only we thumb suckers know)

I love my little thumb-sucker, Warren. I'll just have to remember that when I am making payments on the braces in 10 years!!

Naughty spot - with style!

Okay, I am getting back on the band-wagon...dusting off the egg-timer and reinventing an old favorite; time-out. So, here it is - no excuses. I think it turned out kind of charming for a naughty spot ;) Hmmm...what are the rules against putting yourself in a nice long time-out and bringing a pillow along?

Are the weeds evolving?

We took the boys on a nature walk yesterday and came across this enormous dandelion clock.

Here it is next to Jack's sizable head to get some perspective. Made me wonder, have the weeds evolved since I was little? Usually things seem smaller than when you were little - not the case here.

Warren loved the walk - or should I say ride...zooming down the path on his big wheel. Now that is one thing that hasn't changed a bit in 20 years!

I hope to be

I hope to be...a generous, available and punctual, fun-to-be-around friend

I hope to be...a warm, caring, multi-faceted wife

I hope to be...a silly, spontaneous, rock-solid mom

I hope to be...a goal-oriented, hard-working, think-outside-the-box professional

I hope to be...a role model, humble, advice-doling sister

I hope to be...a thankful, loving, phone-call-away daugther/daughter-in-law

the Hawg

Don't even try to get him to crack a smile when he is riding it. Nope, this is serious business - very intense.

This is Jack riding his motorcycle on "the track" around the park at our recent neighborhood picnic. Needless to say, he made quite the impression on our new neighbors ;)

I love the smell of paint in the morning!

Ahhh, the sweet smell of success...for me lately it has been the smell of paint drying - that is, the smell of character being added to a room with each roller stroke. And the end result has me pretty proud too!

Here is the boys' new room:

*as you enter*

*Warren's bed*

*Jack's bed*

*closet wall*

They have been wanting to share a bedroom for a while and Jack would sometimes take his nap with Warren at the old house on W's trundle bed. They are really enjoying each others' company so far and I have loved standing outside their door listening to the uniquely dorky, "boy-humor" things they talk about before falling asleep.

What does success smell/look/feel/taste/sound like to you right now?

V to the izz-8

On almost the first day of working at my company I came to realize that the pop machines are free of charge - ALL pop machines in ALL the numerous little kitchen areas on ALL the floors that we occupy are free of charge.

It was a mix of excitement and horror....

"will I be able to control myself?"
"or, will I be a complete sloth, drinking 6 diet cokes every day?"
"do they know I have no self control with carbonated beverages?"
"will they have to change the corporate policy because of me?"

AND THEN...I found that my "local machine" stocks V8 juice!!

Thank goodness because I also love V8, even though it isn't carbonated. I like to take an extra one home with me each day for the drive and then I don't feel the need to pig out when I get home.

Do you know why it's called V8? ...result of my google of the day.

Could've had a V8? Don't mind if I do!

Two funky pillows, coming right up!

When I found this great fabric I envisioned these pillows and they turned out just perfect!

Now that is as much credit as I can take because my mother-in-law (MIL) actually executed the plan and brought them to life. And she even gave me a great orange throw to go along...she thinks of everything. Thank you Caryl, you are the best!! Maybe someday I will learn how to sew, but for now I've got Caryl - my super talented and crafty MIL.

He's packin' heat...

In a "Hello Kitty" purse! I actually love that he let his girl playmate drive his car and had no qualms about carrying her purse - what a man!

Look, he even let his little brother pose as the hood ornament ;)

Thanks, surprise playdate girls, for coming over last night! Anytime!

abra-abra-cadabra...

I want to reach out and grab ya.

I LOVE magic erasers!! It is rediculous, I keep them all over the house cuz' you never know when you will spot a scuff or paint transfer that needs tending to. I should really be on the pay-roll over at Mr. Clean!

I like to start off slow, you know, taking on a baseboard or two and then before you know it I am full on perspiring and my arm is aching. Makes me look at black soled shoes in a whole new light!

Seriously though...

Who doesn't like a little self-effacing humor? This is what happens when two seemingly mature adults are without their children for a weekend...drinking beer on the deck. My depth-perception was compromised! And it was a triple-dog dare!

So, welcome to my blog, now that I have properly introduced myself! I figure with the number of not-too-computer-savvy people I have in my immediate family that this will be better than email and all those fussy attachments. Enjoy!

Rub-a-Dub-Dub...

Two monkies in the tub!

They take bath time very seriously. My little water babies would stay in there for hours if I let them. We wait for "prune" hands and then the lotioning begins...they don't call me the lotionater for nothing!

I wonder when they'll stop bathing together...
